Caithness Moths - Green Pug
As a group Pugs can be challanging to correctly identify, but Green Pug is relatively straight forward. The wing colour can be variable but most have atleast a green sheen and there is a short, plump green abdomen which does not extend beyond the hindwings. If you have well established apple or crab apple trees in your garden there is a good chance that this species will be present. In Caithness the adult has been recorded from early July to mid-August, having overwintered as an egg on the food plant.
