3 Northern Bottlenose Whales were reported in Thurso Bay at 4.45pm today.
It is very unusual to find this species so close to the shore and for that reason a fear of stranding is of great concern.
I'm hoping that in this case because a young animal was seen they may have just turned into the Bay to take a breather from the strong currents of the Pentland Firth.
If people living near the coast can keep a watch of their local coastline it would be appreciated.
Scottish Agricultural College and the BDMLR have all been alerted so a quick response can be made in the event of a stranding.
