Caithness Moths - Silver-ground Carpet
Silver-ground Carpet is an abundant moth in Caithness from mid-May to July. It flies at dusk and can been seen in gadens and the whitish moth seen in car headlights along grassy verges is more likely than not this species. It wears quickly and becomes very pale with indistinct markings. It overwinters as a larva, which eats a range of herbaceous plants.
