This is the first record of Peacock Moth in Caithness and was trapped in the south west of the County. It is local in its distribution in the UK and the nearest records to Caithness are in the Lairg area of Sutherland. The adult is on the wing in May and June having overwintered as a pupa among plant debris. The lavae feed on birch (and perhaps sallow) which is why it will not be widespread in the County.
