Caithness Moths - Peppered Moth
This is the first record of Peppered Moth in Caithness since 1975. Originally thought to be restricted to Berriedale this is one of two caught a little further north on the east coast. The moth is famed for its adaptation to past smoky industrial conditions by evolving a melanistic form less visible on sooty structures. It has a long flight season from May to August and it overwinters as a pupa below ground.
