This Yellow-barred Brindle, one of three caught at Berriedale, is the first record for Caithness. In Scotland it is only locally distributed, the nearest record to Caithness being from near Lairg. In the north it flies from May to June having over wintered as a pupa. The larvae feed on the leaves, flowers and buds of holly, ivy, wild privet, dorwood and hawthorn. It is found in broadleaved woodland.
