    My dad's told me the story behind this (as he recalls!) waters was being cheeky to the police and one of them gave him a clip around the ear.

    The court case was then brought to decide if the police had "assaulted" him or was it permissible to give misbehaving kids a smack.

    The police lost.

    In retrospect i wonder was this ruling the beginning of the end !!

    Instead of the "oor Wullie" style clip round the ear the police lost some of their independance of thought and the youths got the upperhand as they knew they were untouchable

    In real terms i wonder what that decision has cost us all? Vandalism, court cases, social workers and worse - our nanying of louts rather than discipline

    Was Thurso responsible for the creation of the Ned/Chav culture we have today??
