I am researching William Manson Brock, an Indian Mutiny veteran originally from Heathfield, Thurso. He was born on 4th June 1836. When aged 16 he enlisted in the Honourable East India Company and was attached to the 1st Bengal Fusiliers. After an eventful period in India, where he got his foot shot off, he returned to Thurso where he became an instructor in the Thurso and Halkirk Rifle Volunteers.

I would be most interested in any information on the Volunteers, especially any old photos, if they exist.

William Manson Brock eventually moved to Aberdeen with his family of 10 sons and 2 daughters and died there in 1906. He was a stone polisher.
