Caithness Moths - Red Chestnut
With its intricate markings, subtle combination of shades of brown and red, the grey dusting along the leading edge of the forewing and its red thorax the Red Chestnut is favourite moth of mine. Although not rare in Caithness it is never seen in large numbers and has been recorded throughout April and May. It over winters as a pupa.
