bottom 0.5" was a 'sting'
shaped very similar to a wasp
orange and black
any ideas please?

at that size almost certainly a hornet - nasty wee blighters, they can give a nasty sting!Quote:

they are, but folks see and describe colours very differently. Can't think of anything else it could be.
