I see that there is a consultation out by the Scottish Government to halve the duty? What's that going to do; simply increase more flights - Easyjet has already stated today they will operate more flights from Scottish airports.. hmm won't do much to cut CO2 emissions will it - thought Scotland prided itself on it's Green credentials?:confused
It will save on emmisions generated getting down to England to catch your flight in the first place.

It's the same for premium international flights. If someone is willing to pay £2000+ for a business class flight to America, I doubt a £73 reduction will make any difference to their decision.
In reality, I think what will happen is that any reduction in duty will coincide with the airlines raising prices. This is exactly what happened when the air discount scheme started. Eastern Airways cheapest price to Aberdeen was approx £100. ADS 40% discount came in and prices rose to £140. The airline knew people were willing to be £100 out of pocket for the flight, so the 'discount' basically bypassed the public and made the airline richer.
A nonsense policy that costs the public purse whilst making the rich richer. The tories would be proud.
