Thurso man alleged to have warned trio he would stab them
A THURSO man has gone on trial accused of threatening to stab three people in a town street, with a syringe he warned contained a liquid that would cause them to develop AIDS,
In addition to denying threatening or abusive behaviour, Peter “Pedro” Mackay, 31, also pleaded not guilty to possessing a knife in Henderson Street, Thurso, and shouting and swearing at the occupant of a house there, on March 17.
Wick Sheriff Court heard from James Henderson, one of the three people alleged to have been the target of the syringe threat. The other two victims were said to be Shelley Davis and Marwin Roberts.
Mr Henderson, 31, said he had been walking with friends when Mackay appeared and went to speak to one of them.
Mr Henderson told the court that he was a little distance away and didn’t hear what was said, adding: “It had nothing to do with me...I didn’t pay any attention."
Asked if he saw Mr Mackay carrying anything, Mr Henderson replied: “No”.
Mr Henderson said he later went to Ms Roberts’ house in Henderson Street, and later saw Mackay passing the window and assumed he was going to visit her.
Mr Henderson told the jury of 12 women and three men that he had gone to the toilet but had been told afterwards, by Ms Roberts that she didn’t want Mackay to come in and had “held the door” to stop him gaining access.
Replying to David Barclay, prosecuting, Mr Henderson rejected a suggestion that he might have seen more that he was telling the court. The witness confirmed that Mackay was a friend of his and was generally known as Pedro.
The prosecution and defence have agreed evidence of witness statements having been given to the police by James Henderson, Shelley Davis, and Marwin Roberts in connection with an incident on March 17 and that Mackay was arrested a week later.
