WICK ACADEMY official Alan Farquhar has paid outgoing Barry Wilson a glowing tribute and revealed his departure to Elgin City was not unexpected.
Mr Farquhar said:"Barry is an ambitious man so his move didn't come as a surprise to anyone.
We were only too happy to give him a platform to develop his fledgling managerial career at SHFL level."
As reported, Wilson joined Elgin City as the replacement for Ross Jack.
Mr Farquhar, secretary and interim chairman, said today, that Barry had come to them with "great experience and knowledge" from a very successful professional playing career along with the knowledge he had amassed as assistant to his good friend Ro:ss Jack who recently left City.
Said Mr Farquhar: "Barry steaded the ship after the departure of Davie Kirkwood and instilled confidence back into the players and gave them belief. That was reflected on the park where the club went on to finish third the SHFL, only four points behind champions Cove, Wick's highest ever finish. It also created a bit of history when Academy won all 17 home matches at Harmsworth Park, a magnificent achievement at any level."
Assistant managers, Richard Hughes and Gordon Connelly will look after the team meantime while Academy's executive committee meet and address the question of how best to fill the manager's vacancy.
