Trying to find out the name of a film!

Hiya peeps... my first thread in the Film Dept. of the Org. so here goes...

Almost certainly a B/W movie. In english. Pretty sure there was a female ghost in it. I remember on old house the usual thunder lightening/rain background (when the ghost appeared) at the end of a corridor indidcating to someone (by action/movment) to open a secret drawer on a peice of furniture. The furniture had a carving of a person or angel or cherub which when moved/pivoted opened a drawer. In the drawer was an ornate handeled knife, can't remember if the blade was curved or not. The ghost indicated to the person who may have been woken up or sleepwalking or hipnotised to kill with the knife as they slept. I think it may have been a dormatory... it was long ago and I was half asleep myself... when I find out the name I will endeavour to get a copy of it...
