I don't know whether it's down to a good survival rate under the snow blanket or whether there was just nothing else to do but I am seeing large numbers of mice and or shrews running through the grass and rough vegetation around my croft. I had heard that there has been a big mortality among the owl population and probably other birds which were dependent on this food supply when the ground was sealed off from them for so long.
