John Campbell born about 1778 died 1857, William Campbell and Margaret Mackenzie

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum.

I am researching my maternal grandfather's family. His name was George Campbell and he was born 1889 in England. His father, Robert Campbell, was born 1853 in Bonar, Creich. I have traced Robert's ancestors to John Campbell (born about 1778), he died in March 1857 in Bonar and Johns' wife, Christy Gordon, born 1778 in Dornoch, she died 1871 in Bonar. I have looked high and low for John's birth and can not find anything. I know his parents were William Campbell and Margaret McKenzie. The only possible John that I have found was born in Latheron to a William Campbell. I also think that William may have been buried at Ballacly but I'm not sure since I haven't been able to find a list of stone inscriptions for that burial ground. I haven't found a marriage between William Campbell or Margaret McKenzie either, whether it be in Caithness or Sutherland.

So, that is why I am now on this forum.

I would love to hear from anyone who could enlighten me on this subject.
