Third-time bail would "send out wrong message"
A WICK man, who poured cider over his partner of a few months during a row, was remanded in custody pending sentence.
Wick Sheriff Court was told that the relationship had had its ups and downs and the incident, at Johnston Heath’s home in Kennedy Terrace, Wick, occurred during one of the latter phases.
Police were called in after receiving a report of a disturbance, on September 14.
David Barclay, prosecuting, said that Heath, who had been drinking, maintained that his “childish action” had been part of “a tit-for-tat” exchange with his partner, Vanessa Dedlow. She had since moved away from Wick and there was no question of the relationship being rekindled.
Heath, 48, appeared from custody and admitted abusive behaviour and an extensive record and was further remanded until October 17 when a background report will be available.
Sheriff Andrew Berry observed that his latest offence had been committed when the accused was subject to two bail orders and added that if he granted Heath a third, it would sent out the wrong message to others who might be tempted to flout the rules.
Desperate man broke into his former home
A MIDDLE-AGED man was so desperate that he broke into the house from which he had been evicted.
The court was told that Stephen Cumming just wanted to get his head down and recover some of his belongings.
He was arrested by police in the vicinity of Marr Terrace in Thurso, on September 13. Cumming admitted breaking into his former house, there.
His solicitor, Fiona MacDonald, said that the accused was in employment and was “seeking to get his life back on track”.
Describing the case as “very unusual”, the sheriff ordered Cumming to pay £80 for the replacement of the window he broke to gain access to the building. Sheriff Berry paid tribute to the accused’s employers who had given him considerable assistance and added: “We will work on the basis that you will grab this opportunity with both hands”.
