Took frustration out on cars, court hears

AN Alness man “lost the plot” following a post-funeral family discussion and took his frustration out on two cars in a Wick street.
Robin Sutherland admitted the vandalism at Wick Sheriff Court, on Friday, and was warned by the sheriff, that he could face a prison sentence.
Sutherland (23) of Kirkside, Alness, had been in Caithness for a funeral and afterwards some family issues were aired.]
Senior fiscal depute, David Barclay, said that during the discussion, certain past relationships were brought up.
Mr Barclay continued: “Combined with the consumption of alcohol, Sutherland ended up in something of an emotional state. He took his frustration out on two parked vehicles.”
Two wing mirrors were struck, in Nicolson Street, Wick, on March 4, but one of them wasn’t broken and was able to be clicked back into place, on a Rover Metro. The other mirror on a Skoda Fabia, was repaired at a cost of £30 which was paid for by Sutherland.
Solicitor Neil Wilson said that the accused had been “very drunk” and had no recollection whatsoever” of the incident.
Mr Wilson continued: “However, he realises full well, that his record puts him in a very difficult position and that being over the age of 21, he could be subject to a prison sentence.” A positive development was, that Sutherland had been able to get a job, as a scaffolder in the Cromarty Firth .
Sheriff Andrew Berry continued the case until June 6, for reports and to discover the outcome of a case, the accused had outstanding, at Tain Sheriff Court.
The sheriff told him: “I had considered sending you straight to prison. If there is one thing that is infuriating for hard-working police, it is people who take their frustration out, on property.” He warned Sutherland that all sentencing options remained open.
