Just seen the final league tables for the SPL on various websites BBC etc, and being in England and not fully up to date with Scottish football I am confused by the position of Inverness Caley with 58pts, is it something to with their ground and UEFA cup qualification and ground standards.

Pl GD Pts
1 Celtic 38 56 91
2 Hearts 38 40 74
3 Rangers 38 30 73
4 Hibernian 38 5 56
5 Kilmarnock 38 -1 55
6 Aberdeen 38 6 54
7 Inverness CT 38 13 58
8 Motherwell 38 -6 49
9 Dundee Utd 38 -25 33
10 Falkirk 38 -29 33
11 Dunfermline 38 -35 33
12 Livingston 38 -54 18

Please, can someone put me out of my misery?

BrokenCross,
The league splits after 33 games, then the top six teams play each other once. The bottom six teams do the same. In the last few seasons the 7th team in the league end up with more points than the 5th placed team!!

Strange I know but it Scottish Football after all!!

Hope this helps

Thanks for that Renard, I am enlightened, if I am honest it was my daughter who pointed out the discrepency in the points. What a wierd and wonderful system.
And Saxovtr I did see the Grand Prix, not exactly an earth shattering event, everything is so automated it is just like a big version of Scalectrix.

Obiron you are right. "watching Grand Prix" and "watching paint dry" often appear in the same sentence.

Strange old league the SPL is, very strange indeed. Thankfully its done until the end of July & hopefully my favourites will be a wee bit better next season.

Thanks for asking a question that us Ex pats needed the answer to.

I'm going have to agree with both of you on this one aswell, you can't compare the skill of a F1 driver with a numpty who can kick a bag of wind about![lol]

Now we know why footie threads are banned on the org, they degenerate into mud slinging.

back to the original post guys, Why is it split??? what reasons are there for it??? to me it doesnt make sense, ICT should have finished 4th and maybe if that split werent there could have pushed for europe.

Weird rule i think
