WHAT THE CHILDREN KNOW
ANON
( Edinburgh Folk story )

At Midnight when the sky is dark
Our statues come alive,
They have a picnic in the park
And play till half past five.

At midnight when the moon is out
Our statues then take care,
That no one sees them more about
As they are gathering there.

At midnight when the city's still
Our statues hold a race
But when the dawn creeps up the hill
They must be back in place.

For statues do not sing like larks
Nor do they eat nor drink
But elegantly grace our parks -
Or so the adults think !
