got Photomatix now so had a play around to see what I could come up with on a couple of photo's - only liked one of the results!
Need to start getting out and taking at bracketed exposures
I did this tonight from just one image, not totally happy but good enough for 1st attempts, I need more practice with Elements too

Very nice! I find I do stuff with ps elements, and when I want to do it again, I cant remember how I did it! Getting old is a pain!
This looks great to me Dragonfly. Lovely rock detail and tones.

dragonfly,
Looks pretty good to me, I would happily hang that on my wall.

Nothing wrong with that at all.I've found that some shots just dont lend themselves to HDR no matter what you try and do to them so dont worry about getting a few failures, also beware rogue colours,it doesn't bother me but strange colours sometimes tend to appear, if like me you tend to work in VIVID mode, where you least expect them, probably why i love slightly over the top HDR.
There are quite a few video Photomatix tutorials on the web/youtube,some are very good, some not, so its a bit of a hit and miss as well.
Lots of practice is the answer.
Would any of you be kind enough to explain to my OH how HDR works, he's been playing with a few photos, but it doesn't seem to be working.
He's inorg so please pm him.
Looks like you got it right! I would say though that HDR can sometimes look like a cartoon, so don't be afraid to use more closely bracketed exposure sets to get a less extreme range.

thanks everyone, I really like the foreground colours so fairly happy, it was just the sky that I couldn't get to how I wanted it (too pastel a top half compared to bottom half)
away to practice some more now :Razz
Lizz, here's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging) link to wikipedia explanation, hope it helps, I don't understand it either lol

HDR stands for "High Dynamic Range". The Dynamic Range of a Digital Camera or of Film is it's ability to record the lightest and darkest areas of a photograph.
This article gives a pretty good explanation.

Love it!!!!!!!!!!

Wow Dragonfly you are getting really good at this!
Very impressed!:D
Love it a wonderful view of the Glebe, well done
Great shot Dragonfly, I like the effect on this particular photo, I don't usually like obvious HDR effects but this one works well.

Love this effect, makes for a more dramatic shot. Would also be happy to frame and hang this one on my wall. Keep them coming.

You are getting very good, that one's my favourite of yours so far.:D
I've not done HDR yet but I've just done a tutorial in a magazine on how to fake the HDR effect. This comes in handy if you can only get a single exposure from a subject that keeps moving etc or you can't be bothered with the hassle. From my own attempts the results are quite encouraging.

This website shows some wonderful examples of HDR Photography.
The page takes some time to load all of the excellent photos.
There are also tutorials, etc.
