Great shot, but I think he needs a decoke, or maybe a shot of Redex !!

I remember being less than 100 feet under one of thes great beasts as it took off at Tattersall in Lincolnshire in the 60's, the noise and the feeling of immense power makes your blood tingle and your whole body vibrate, fantastic. They were carrying nukes 24/7 in those days.

Well you just wheeched me back to RAF Scampton in 1968!

"They were carrying nukes 24/7 in those days."

No Nirofo, they didn't...there were four Vulcans all fully armed on Quick Readiness Alert (QRA) 24/7.
The ones in the air were not nuke laden...far too risky!

I lived about a 100 yards from the Engine running pans and know exactly what you mean about the vibes!

But one got used to it!

Ooooh I could tell ya some tales...if it wasn't for the OSA!

Ooh go on, nobody reads the OSA anymore!!

Nothing beats the howl of the Olympus engines spooling up.

Loving the aircraft pictures, what others you got stached?
Quite agree a Vulcan on take off makes one heck of a noise but it's worth it just to see the big bird flying.

Nice one auldtimer i mind RAF Scampton just fine from those days, even tho i was just a slip of a lad...the swimming pool beside the bowling alley, the sargents mess christmas partys....not to mention the Vulcans. So huge to walk underneath but so small inside. Spectacular things to have above the house but noisy and a bit disruptive to the telly signal.....happy days.

Nice to see in such a good photo!

I think the two planes are just coming into land, and the first one has just applied his brakes and it's smoke coming off his tyres.

I did some work at the American air base at Alconbury for a while, now that was interesting.

Erm Kev, I don't think it's coming in to land!
No sign of the ailerons on the wings...the tyres only make that smoke when they hit the ground!

That's AVTUR fumes!

Michty, I can still smell it to this day!

And ye micht notice, the undercarraige isna doon as weel!
