AFAIK the cable from outside to the wee box and then to your first (master) socket is the responsibility of BT and therefore you shouldn't touch it. This sounds like a similar situation (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/65/33633996-bt-box-to-nte5-master-socket.html) on another forum.

Don`t know the BT engineer rates now, but two years ago they wanted £99.99 plus VAT just to enter a property to see if the fault at an ancient connection was their problem or not. The previous tenant in the house had been unable to use the phone because the old connection was broken. After a long discussion with chief engineer in Inverness the job was done for free for the old gentleman who needed the connection to work his alarmcall for the warden and also his lifeline to access help.

Best of luck, I feel you may need it.

If it looks like this:

then your OK, open it up like so:

and connect you new bit of wire to the little plate that comes off, like the bit of wire in the bottom of the above piccy.

Google will tell you which connections to use etc. or I'm sure we can get the wiring diagrams for you.
Quite simple really, as you see in this pic connectors 2 to 5 are used, so 2 goes to 2 on you new box, 3 to 3, 4 to..well you get the idea.

'tis quite simple, just make sure you get a punchdown tool (little plastic thingy) for making the connections or I can lend you a decent one if your in this neck of the woods.
