View Full Version : Budlea
Budlea - What is the best way to protect this shrub from frost. I have managed to grow another in my garden after loosing one to frost previous. I don't want the same thing to happen again. Any suggestions.

Garden fleece or a well sheltered area against the house wall for warmth.
Thanks for that changilass, I will follow your advice.:)

Not a big gardener myself but I think you can prune budlea right down to just a few inches of the roots each year and it will come back just as big the following year. This would save frost damage on existing branches I think.
leave it until spring and prune hard back. I don't think you can kill it!
Dont be too sure that you cannot kill it. Pruned hard 2 years ago, no flowers since.

Pile the base with manure or some other kind of mulch over winter. That way if a frost or a freeze does damage the main plant the rootstock and base should be sufficiently protected and should shoot back up from the base.
Thanks to everyone for the advice, it's much appreciated.:)
