Hi i have an old pony (33) i found him this morn laying down he had a real job to get up i had to help him(he also had a a similar prob in the field in the summer but not as bad) i think the cold weather is playing on his bone and joints, i have given him a bute but i would rather not keep him on it long term i want to try something else that would work just as good like zerobute. has anyone tried something that is equal or better than bute.

So sorry that your poor old boy is feeling the effects of the cold weather.:(

This might help?http://equinatural.com/nobute

Also there are some great products from a company called Back on Track. Benjy, my dog, has aggravated an old leg injury walking in the snow and ice and I got him one of their leg wraps which is really helping.:D

I will go and find the website and address and get back to you.

You might like to investigate Green Lipped Mussel as an additive to help with the old ones athritis. It is safe to use on both animals and humans and though I have not used it on my old lady...yet, she will be going onto in the new year. It is a natural antinflammatory and takes around 3-4 weeks to build up in the system. Maybe woth looking into it as I have used it on my old dog, who responded well............and myself when I injured my back. Was amazed at how good it was.:)

Oh yes forgot about the Green Lipped Mussel Teenybash.:D

Where do you get yours from and how much do you give a dog?

Majic here are the details of the Back On Track products. Unfortunately, the horse blankets are pretty expensive.

You can buy it from www.simplysupplements.co.uk (http://www.simplysupplements.co.uk) or you can buy the loose powdered mussels and additives from some of the sellers of.......wait for it................Ebay.
For Benjy i would only give 1/2 a teaspoon sprinkled through food.:)

Hi Majic, I know someone who tried it for her older pony. I'm sure it was given at a higher dose for the first week to increase its impact and then a lower level daily amount, she was quite impressed with the results. Luckily our old guy hasn't had any joint stiffness.. so far . Hope you find something effective.Good luck.
