our lad has got this, its a tendon inflamation in his leg, too much sport and a growth spurt
has anyone's bairns suffered this and if so how long before they got over it
thanks in advance for any info

we've googled through the net but was wondering if anyone had first "knee" experience of it

I knew of someone who had it, he blamed it on his parents who were obsessed about him getting him up to international rugby level. He says it still plagues him into adult life and he is still playing local rugby at 44!

My son had it when he was in his early teens and playing a lot of sport, although it seemed like a worry at the time he soon got over it and went on to play a high standard of rugby and is still playing now, at 36.

My son had this when he was 16. Spent 6 weeks in plaster to enforce rest and no sport. after 6 weeks returned to playing a LOT of sport joined the Army at 17 and had no further problems. Specialist said once they stopped growing it would right itself.regards robyn

My brothers and I all had this during our early teen growth spurt. Same story as the other folks here, enforced break in sports and general teenage boy behavior - no feats of strength!

My older brother at one point had to have an arm in a plaster cast because the tendons in his forearm and elbow were having problems. My family also has a bit of a marfans streak, and this is a mild form of it that crops up in adolescence.

Now as adults, none of us have any problems - my younger brother was in the Army and I was in the Marines, so they put us through the paces.

I had this when I was in High School. Probably 14-ish...Sprinting the 100metres & around my left kneecap became so sore the last 25metres or so was torture! Around my kneecap had swollen up like a ball, it wasn't sore to touch though, but to stand on it was torture.

The Dr. gave me a gel (really cold to apply) to rub on & I wrapped a tight elasticated bandage support around my knee, which helped tremendously.

I seem to remember taking anti-biotics too, however I'm unsure if my memory is correct here.

My eldest son has this conditiond too. He played lots of footie, and it flared up. Probably had problems for about 6 months on and off. Then it settled down altogether.

Lynne,

I had it when I was 13/14, whilst living in Thurso. Had to wear a plaster cast from groin to ankle to immobolise the knee. Didn't stop me getting about, though. I used to cycle with the one good leg - push down, pull up with the toes! Had to wear it for 6 weeks. Cured it though. ;)

Hi Lynne
My daughter was diagnosed with this in her early teens. It settled with rest and anti inflammatories. It seemed to be worse during growth spurts plus I think the trampolining aggravated it.
