We are very fortunate in Caithness to have a 4 dialysis machine
unit in caithness General Hospital where patients with kidney problems can get dialysis.
Unfortunately kidney disease and related problems are on the up and more patients are needing dialysis. This will unfortunately mean that patients will have to travel back and forth to Raigmore hospital in inverness again for their 4/5 hour dialysis treatment. We thought this would never happen again.
However, it has been decided by the health board and the hospital that the renal unit can move up the corridor to the gymn where there is plenty of room for extra machines. Unfortunately this will cost thousands of pounds to install the water and equipment again. Due to cut backs, this will be held up for a long time till money becomes available.
The renal unit and the Renal Dialysis support Group hope to raise a large amount of money, hoping that if they raise half the money needed the hospital would be able to go ahead a nd move the unit.
If you are fundraising or have money you wish to donate, please think of some poor patients who may be leaving caithness at 6am on a cold winters day 3 times a week and not getting back till 5pm. If we raise lots of money maybe we could prevent this and get the unit moved.
If you would like to donate or could help, or would like to join the committee, please contact me. thankyou.
