View Full Version : Annoying Weather Maps

When I lived in Caithness, the telly's weather maps showing Orkney and Shetland in a box in the Murray Firth used to annoy me. In Caithness, I was fully aware that there was quite a bit of Scotland north of me.

Now that I live in Canada, the weather maps are equally annoying in that they do not show the whole country - granting that the missing northern bit may only have a few Inuit and military personnel inhabiting it.
With the looming melting of the northwest passage and the lack of international acceptance of it being "Canadian Waters" - the correction of weather maps would remind Canadians (and others) of the extent of this very large country.

Have they improved the weather maps of Scotland (all of it) in the last 30 years ?
If not, does it annoy anyone else, or is my rant a solo act ?

The maps are laid out as they should be now.

The forecasting is still miles out, though.

The large bay between Caithness/Sutherland and Lossiemouth/Peterheed Used To Be called the Murray Firth (I think).

Tell me what it is called now - please !

And

Are Shetland and Orkney still relocated there in your weather maps ?

It's the Moray Firth. They're making fun of your spelling.

Orkney and Shetland are shown in the right places on the BBC's weather maps, as Northener said.

You've got that right.
I seem to have forgotten the community mores.
Or maybe, it was just a bad spell.

The Islanders took exception to be shown in the Moray Firth and a few years ago they produced a map of Orkney and Sheltand with the rest of Britain in a box in the Moray Firth.

Probably the best place for most of it.....
