Aw well, looks like a done deal then.:confused

Why do the tories keep saying the popular thing and playing the people's voice then keep backing out?

But a Tories EU Referendum U-Turn won't affect us in Caithness, because John Thurso will get in next time again.Liberal always wins.Well since Robert left Labour.National politics is lead by the winner of the final constituency vote together.I think the Tories are coming back.

The treaty has all been ratified now because of the Czech decision, it would be an extremly difficult for Britain and the next Tory Government to try and have a referendum on it, that would be taking on the entire EU.

Least the Conservatives had a bit of honesty to say there would be no referendum if the last EU member ratified it..... cant say the same for our socialist eliteists who promised us one and then just decided to ram it right down our necks like every one of their narrow short term policies.

New Labour sold us down the road years ago

You said it.

The tories jumped on the impossible popular bandwagon and made some political capital out of it then backed off when what they proposed was practically a load of cack. Seems like nothing has changed since herr thatcher was in power when she made her no no no no speech.

It has nothing to do with political capital, EU membership is one of the biggest issues for center right parties all across Europe. Unfortunatly the situation has changed making it impossible for them to pursue a referendum without serious consequnces for Britain when they gain power.

In a true direct Democracy the majority "popular" vote should win every time. Democracy was invented to protect the majority from the minority. A popular bandwagon as you put it should be the most powerfull grouping in a true democracy.

But our modern representative system we elect 1% of the population to make decisions on our behalf. This traditionally was with the trust that MP's and in paticular the Prime Minister would keep one eye on what the feeling of the electorate was.

But as the recent cash scandal ect has proved we elect goverments who ruthlessly pursue a different agenda, ones that pander to the whims of the public sevice, the press and big business.

This decline of the importance of the electorate is giving rise to parties like the BNP in places where labours traditional working class vote is crumbling as they continue to ignore them and thier concerns

The next General Election will probably see for the first time an increase the vote of parties like UKIP and the BNP, Greens ect as the disillusionment of the electorate from the political elite grows

This does not bode well for the next 50 years with the gap between rich and poor getting wider, rising energy costs, energy shortages and climate issues.

Labour promised that the Euro will only be adopted on their watch by use of a referendum, if/when tories get in they will sanction the use of the Euro without a vote.

Liebour also promised us a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

They are all full of promises and crap. Nothing ever changes, same false promises no matter what party is in power. It's little wonder the BNP are picking up votes from disillusioned voters, and if the main parties keep up their political nonsense the BNP will continue to pick up a vote here and there and perhaps even another seat or two, and it will be our Tory and Labour ministers to blame, unforunately they are unable to see the damage they are doing to the voting population by their lies and false promises which they have no intention of keeping.

When will they ever listen to the people of the country?

That is pretty much spot on with what is happening, the man on the street no longer matters.

They seem to think they are elected to tell us what to do rather than elected to serve.
