Just got this website from a magazine, it gives the densities of a surname for 1881 and 1998.
Interesting the spread of local names.

Its really interesting where you can find your surname,mine's french but there's a large majority of us in the central belt.
It can even be linked to a clan.
Well worth a look see,might take sometime to get onto as it was busy when i used it.:Razz

If the 1881 map id anything to go by then both sides of my family were part of the cross border thuggery.

Before anybody else says it, yes, it probably does explain a great deal about me! :Razz

very interesting it said we were mostly to be found in Caithness or Strathclyde area. As far as i am aware there are only 2-3 families with my maiden surname in Caithness.

That was good, didn't realise there were so many of us around! Good to see how the name has spread across the country over the 100 year span.
