I don't know the URL, but do a google search for AVG, they do a free program and updates and have certainly detected and cured viruses for me.

Oh dear !
Can only advise you to go to here (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/) and download a browser called firefox, it's a lot more secure than IE :)

Also do you use a firewall?
if not you can download free Zonealarm here (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?lid=)

Avg is the antivirus proggy i run and again it is free from here (http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html)

This combination works well for me.

I am sure someone more techy minded than I will be along shortly to helpp out with the actual virus problem. Good Luck :D

You might want to try http://www.ewido.net/en/ - It can take an hour or so to scan but is very thorough, You'll be suprised at the number of nasties it picks up...

If it is a Trojan Horse that you have, this is not a virus there for an anti- virus program may not be of any use in this circumstance. Try downloading an anti Ad/ Spyware such as Lavasoft SE Personal or Microsoft Windows Defender (Beta 2).

Visit: MICROSOFT: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=435bfce7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&DisplayLang=en

LAVASOFT: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-2

If this still does not get rid of it, obtain the name of the Trojan Horse which should be displayed in the Scan Results after running the 2 programs above and let me know what it is and I might be able to tell you how to remove it from your PC.

You could try downloading Hijack this from http://www.merijn.org/

Arrr, but surely it is the Trojan, by nature, that holds the virus - Therefore good AV wares should pick it up? Or do I have it wrong?? :D

No you're quite correct, SOME trojan horses disguise themselves as antispyware programs but they actually contain a virus. It's like in the Roman times when they used Trojan Horses to disguise and get into different places. Anti virus programs may DETECT trojan horses but they may not be programmed to remove the trojan horse. Sometimes it can be very difficult to remove the trojan horse as it may contain many viruses and an anti virus package may only remove SOME of the viruses from the system as some others may have located themselves somwhere else.

Try going into Safe Mode and running your AV again - this is usually much more successful.

Good Luck!:o)

Did you give Ewido a spin and if so what did you think?

I had problems with AVG detecting trojans but the trojans came back after deletion. I read that this was because windows restore does not recognise the problem file as a virus and therefore they are not fully deleted. I switched restore off and ran AVG again. Once the PC was clean I rebooted and switched restore back on. Never had any further problems.

Worth also emptying your Recycle Bin and turning off the roll-back feature, should you go down that route :)

Exactly. Keeping one's PC spyware and virus free should be a major local training program by local government - free, of course.

Just out of interest, may I ask why?

Along the lines of should it not be an individuals responsibility??

Thanks every1 for your help - i have downloaded AVG anti-virus and it is doing a run through on my laptop - its been doin it for 3hrs and a half!! hehe.
Anyway i think i might delete the whole avast thing but i do find it good when it finds a virus - then i dont know what to do after that!

But if AVG works and will do all what avast does but simpler i will delete all avast and keep AVG - shall see after its done checking ma laptop!

Thanks every1 once again!

Forget avg the best virus and trojan program i have used is by far nod32 its not free but if you know where to look you can get it for free

Once i installed it and ran it there was stuff found that every other virus and firewall program "missed" never had any problmes with it so far

Got to agree that nod32 is probably one of the best there is on the market and when used in conjuction with zonealarm firewall makes your computer very secure.
Bit extreme but you could change to apple mac as this os is very rarely prone to virus attacks.
