Bird of beauty, elegance and grace
If you all die what will take your place?
What serenly glide, mirrored on tranquil waters?
Line astern scruffy grey your sons and daughters.
No longer will be heard the throb of giant wings,
No more the strange call of The Hooper as he sings.
The Bewick with his dark and primrose bill,
Will be missing from the loch ,the river and the rill.
No more up ended as webbed feet wildly paddle,
No more nests the clumps of reeds to straddle.
If cruel nature takes all your kind away from me,
River, loch, pond and shore a sadder place will be.
For I have loved your snow white beauty through the years.
Now the thought of losing you fills my eyes with tears.

This seems to have appeared twice my apologies and once again thank you for all the messages I have recieved. It just struck me after my last trip north when I was watching Bewicks that with the current events it may be the last time I see them in Caithness.
