Strange you should mention blue lights. About 15 years ago I was heading out towards Janetstown (the Thurso one) when blue lights went flashing at a hell of a speed about 50-100 feet off the ground. I was in my car at the time, so I wasna drunk!! There was no sound at all, really spooky it was. I never reported it, but a couple of days later a couple of others had seen it and reported it to the Police and it was in the paper.

We are not alone.......

Strange lights in the sky could be ball lightning...

Ball lightning is basically a globe of light that floats through the air. It can be any size or colour (including blue, which someone mentioned above). Can be seen floating upwards, or down from the clouds, or moving horizontally (at any speed). Theres even been reports of it passing through glass leaving it unharmed, or passing through things and leaving a hole. Its sometimes been reported at the same time as thunderstorms, but not always. It's not certain what causes it, but I guess it is some sort of weather related phenomenon (maybe Tugmistress can shed some "light" on the subject :Razz )

I remember watching a programme once about alien activity, and there was a couple of stories on it to do with people seeing strange lights.... and putting it down to aliens. A year or so after that I saw another programme to do with ball lightning, and it had the exact same stories, explaining the lights as ball lightning... Personally, I believe the ball lightning explanation.

Ball Lightning is fascinating when you have a read HERE (http://www.answers.com/ball%20lightening)

an excerpt -

Ball lightning has been seen in places as diverse as "escorting" World War II bombers, flying alongside their wingtips. During this period, due to the enigmatic nature of this phenomenon, these appearances were referred to as "foo fighters." Other accounts place ball lightning as appearing over a kitchen stove to wandering down the aisle of an airliner. One report described ball lightning engulfing and following a car, causing the electrical supply to overload and fail.

Ball Lightning is fascinating

It certainly is...

I'd love to see it, but obviously from a safe distance! If it was coming towards me I would be running in the opposite direction!
