I'm always in the Wick Gym, but i don't do much talking, it's a Gym, for working out, not for socialising and hevin a blether. And if you are using any of the cardio machines, talking while using them is not a good idea as is makes your breathing very irregular.

Have to agree with Gizmo, it's not easy talking AND exercising

oh and last week Jeremy Kyle was on telly as well so there wasn't a chance of having a conversation with that racket going on

New equipments excellent, well...most of it's excellent, the new Cycle machines are horrid, it's just that there's no bloody room to move in the place now, they made an erse of the design and the equipment barely fits into the place.

Wish they'd put the news (with subtitles) on the middle tv, bit more interesting for the likes of me as not really into sports news.

I got a telling off from Mrs Giz for that post as well, but it wasn't a dressing down, and i didn't actually mean for it to come across as blunt as it did.....so, sorry Tootz, it was mearly some advice that blethering and exercising does not give you the full benefit from your workout, also there is nothing worse (for me anyway) than someone trying to talk to you while you are working out, a lot of concentration is needed during a workout, and talking is just a distraction, if you want to blether...go to the post office :p

grins* wont hold it against you giz.. but what you may not know being a guy, again wont hold your sex against you! *w* is that women are pack animals expecially when it comes to the horrible places like gyms, pools, or anywhere else that we have to go out and be brave! its so much better to do it with someone else there with you for support purposes! exspecially when they are just starting out!

Horrible place like the gym?...how very dare you , tis my home away from home.

But yeah, i accept your point, i've been going to the gym for so long now that i have kinda forgotten how intimidating a place it can be for certain people when they are starting out.

I have to say though, no one has any need to feel out of place or intimidated in the gym, i've had people say to me that they dont like going to the gym because they feel stupid on the equipment, saying that people..."the fit people" are watching them etc, which is a load of rubbish, no one i know that goes to the gym gives a hoot about what anyone else looks like on the equipment, regardless of how overweight or unfit they may be, everyone has to start somewhere, people need to get over that daftness, because no one is laughing at them. The gym is! a friendly place, and even though i said i don't go there to talk, or do much talking while i'm there, i'll always help out other gym users with hints and tips if they are using any of the equipment incorrectly (which a lot of people do).

I agree with you Giz about having to concentrate during a workout.

I was on the cross trainer one night giving it my all, and my mate starts speaking to me from across the room - i lost my concentration and balance, straightened my knee when i shouldn't of and hurt it.

Needless to say when i go to the gym now, i put my headphones in and no-one gets to speak to me.

I have to agree with giz as well. Concentration is very important whilst using the gym. I use the one in Thurso quite a lot and always put on my headphones when I am in there. Dont mind a chat in between different machines though and always willing to give advice to the new comers. The tv screens in Thurso are usually tuned to music channels so that is quite good to. As giz says no one is in there to criticise anyone else on there weight or fitness as we are all made differently.
