Is there a cash machine in Halkirk?
My son is desperate to check his bank account but I refuse to drive him to Thurso for that. Especially because I was in Thurso this morning but he didn't bring his bank card....

I've done more than one good deed today already for him. He could do telephone banking or sign up for internet banking... but that would require getting his arse off the bed and his eyes off the xbox and actually organise something himself....
Or he could have used his brain and take his wallet into Thurso this morning....

WOW!! to say such things about your son on a Public forum, well that is your choice, but I hope he does not read this.

Sometimes they have to find out the hard way that we are not there to cater for their needs all the time. Internet banking is easy to set up and use.
You could offer to take him to check his balance if he pays you the going taxi rate.;)

I am sure he will read it, but I have already said it to his face. He is 18 on Monday and I am not his personal taxi.
His application for a provisional driving license has been in the drawer for several months... he had hundreds of opportunities to get pictures for it, that's all he needs, but he just couldn't be bothered.....

The other thing that I haven't said is: He knows I am going into Thurso again tomorrow... but he needed to check his balance tonight... why? He couldn't answer that.

He also has a bike available to bike into Thurso. Done it before and as he wants to join the army it would actually be good for him.

Well, we all have priorities... being a taxi for avoidable trips is certainly not one of mine. If he needed to be in Thurso for something important or to be picked up after socialising with friends, thats not a problem at all.

And what a con that is, being charged to get access to your own money.

He had better start saving hard as it costs quite a bit to buy him-self out of the forces, if he is as lazy as you report he aint got much hope of a career.

He is not lazy at all if he wants to do something. Went on a bike ride the other day, roughly 18 miles I would guess. Helped me shift wood yesterday for a few hours, the day before he moved a load of straw bales for the neighbours...

Once he is motivated it's fine, but priorities isn't his strong side....

BTW I went to Thurso this morning on my own... as I type this he is still in bed... nothing to get up for...
If I knocked on his door he would get up and get straight on the xbox... nothing to do....
So I leave him in bed, saves me a packet on my electricity bill.....;)

Isn't it interesting how the question for a cash machine quickly turns into a discussion about saving to get out of the army ...

There is a link CASH/SAVING, also it was you that suggested the lazy attitude, all I did was linked it to the army seeing as you said he was wanting to join. but as you say it shouldn't be a problem as he will have plenty of motivation in the form of NCO's. Good luck to him.

The army understands them, good trade training, I was there once aged 15 years 11 month.
A long time ago now. LOL

Well, I think the point of the matter here is that there should be a cash machine in Halkirk! It's not a little village anymore, and it is such a pain to not be able to get cash. I believe the Ulbster Arms will give you cash back, but you wouldn't be able to check your balance, obviously! I think we need a cash machine in Halkirk again, the quicker the better!

I agree....but I use the post office as an emergency cash giver. It would have to be free machine...like the one in shop at Watten.
Halkirk is growing daily.;)
