Last night my phone broke. I have had it now for about 17 months. My contract is up in 3 weeks. Typical i know.

All my videos of athrun as a wee baby are on the phone memory, being a plonker i am i never transferred them to my computer.

When i turn my phone on the keypad lights up but thats it. I have done all the checks sony advised but it still wont work.

Can anyone out there manage to maybe get the videos off my phone? This is really important to me! :~(

do you have the data cable for it?

If so what does it do when you plug it into a PC?

I have the connector cable to the pc yea. When i plug it in it does nothing. The phone has to be on to select an option of what you want to transfer before it will connect with the PC.

Spoke with sony and they said it will cost me £30 just for them to look at the phone. For the fix it can cost up to £150!!!

Phoned o2 aswell and they said i can renew my contract on monday. But they gave me 2 awful phones to choose from. No hope! Chances are i will cancel my contract and go to vodafone!

It could be that the screen is ed or it's not displaying correctly
Try plugging it in and press the button you would normally press to select either phone mode or file transfer.

I don't know that particular model but plug it in via the cable, wait a few seconds and then select an option. Either up or down and then the menu, or even just hit the menu / select button.

It may just get the phone talking to your PC.

Will give that a go in a while once i turn my own pc on. Thats where the software is already set up.

what you want is one of the intelligent market traders llike we have down south, they would be able to hit the right keys without looking & do it for you.

if its only the screen thats shot, then i cannot see why not.

does it ring etc, or is there other damage too?
what happened to it?

Tried connecting to the computer and no joy! Computer did not pick up the phone.

Nothing happens when i phone it. Says phone is off. No damage, not dropped etc etc. Well cared for!

Just when i went to turn it on after charging it decided not to switch on properly

Is there no other way to get videos off my internal memory?

right bear with me.

and don't think i'm asking silly questions...........

what phone is it first?

and have you tried taking the battery pack out totally...leaving it for 30secs

them putting the battery back in?

this usually resets most phones.

Its a sony ericson K850i

Yes i have tried that with the battery.

To me it seems that when it tries to start up it just completely freezes.

No its still lighting up the phone on the keypad and camera.

Thats what i was thinking! I dont intend on throwing it away. There is data on that phone that i want. I dont care about phone numbers because i can easily get them back, most are on my sim anyway, but it is just my videos of my son that i want of his first smile, laugh, roll, crawl etc etc.

The phone will not turn on, or the phone switches itself off
Below are some helpful tips for what to do if you can't turn your phone on. Be sure to try each one to determine the nature of the problem.

•First, make sure your battery is fully charged.
•Press the On/Off key for a minimum of 10 seconds to turn the phone on.
•Sometimes, you need to remove the battery to clean dust, dirt and corrosion from the connectors on both the battery and the phone. You can clean the connectors with a soft brush, cloth or q-tip moistened with any type of unflavoured, colourless alcohol. Make sure the connectors of the battery and the phone are totally dry before you put the battery back in the phone.
•Also, check for damage to the connectors of the phone. If you have an original Sony Ericsson battery and your phone displays an "alien battery" message, cleaning the battery as described above might help you correct the problem.
•If possible, try your phone with another battery. If the phone turns on, you might need a new battery. Before replacing your battery, make sure your charger works properly.
•If your phone has a memory card, remove the memory card and try to power the phone on. If the phone turns on, you might need a new memory card.

ok been trawling the forums and asking a few on my forums site

can i just confirm the screen is showing nothing at all?
varoius ideas.......

remove the sim card and try it then.

Connect the cable with 'C' key held down

leave it on and let it go flatten the battery, so the phone dies - connect the PC cable, then connect the charger and restart the phone.
