I am trying to find where two great grandaunts disappeared to. Amelia Reid Miller b. 1859 and Jessie Miller b. 1861 parents Alexander Miller and Christina Smith. Both born in Wick. Parents died in 1868. The girls and two of their siblings are in the 1871 census living with their grandfather Alexander Miller, his daughter Henrietta and her daughter Mary. The girls are not on the 1881 British census. Two of their brothers, George Smith Miller and Daniel Smith Miller emigrated to Australia and I suspect that the girls did also. I have a picture of Jessie in Australia approx. 1920's or 30's. A 'cousin' in Australia said that Aunt Jessie lived in Australia but didn't know if she was married.

Does any of this ring any bells for anyone? Any help at all would be really appreciated!

Hi Cactus Flower,
I have found an Amelia R Miller marrying in NSW in 1900, can you give me a bit more information please? Australian BDM's are in each state and not all accesible from one site. Northern Territory, South Australia and Tasmania are not online. I have the discs for NSW, Tasmania, Western Australia and Victoria up until 1905. Through rootschat you can get some kind soul to check the discs they have.

Cheers

Hi Rhandy,

I have the set of discs "Australian Vital Records Index 1788-1905" from Family Search. It is only an index so the information is limited. However, there is the following:
MILLER, Amelia CM 677840 Age: 18 Marriage
Spouse: KELP, George Age: A
Marriage Date: 18 Apr 1877
Reg Year: 1877 Reg State: Tasmania
Ref Number: 622
The age would be correct as she was born 22 Mar 1859. It doesn't have her parents, so I don't know if it is the right Amelia Miller. Also, for some reason, it doesn't list the Amelia R Miller married 1900 that you found. She would have been 41 in 1900. Does that seem a bit old?

Hi Cactus Flower,
I have the same set plus another, and its not unusual for them not to be on it I have found. The AVR is not complete. Took me a while to work that out. Access dates are all over the place for each state also when you are online. WA births 1841-1932, marriages 1841-1932, deaths 1841-1953, NSW births 1788-1908, marriages 1788-1958, deaths 1788-1978, Vic (pay per view) births 1853-1908, marriages 1853-1942, deaths 1853-1985, Qld births 1829-1914, marriages 1829-1929, deaths 1829-1929.
I have been looking this morning but NSW does not have the parents full names, can make it a tad difficult.
Don't give up its out there somewhere.

Cheers

Well we can eliminate this Amelia Miller. I found that she was born in Tasmania in 1859, not Scotland. And the search continues.
Thanks for your help, Rhandy!!
