Suicide Is Painless

Mash Song

*That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

The game of life is hard to play
Gonna to lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
So this is all I have to say

Suicide Is Painless

A cover of a song written for the movie M*A*S*H. The director’s son, Mike Altman, wrote the lyrics at the age of 14.

The song was also the theme for the M*A*S*H TV series — without the lyrics.

In 1992 the Welsh Rock band Manic Street Preachers covered this for the NME 40th anniversary album Ruby Trax. Released as a single, it peaked at #7 in the UK.

Marilyn Manson covered this in 2000 as the theme for the sequel to the movie The Blair Witch Project

In 2006, this was covered by Lady & Bird, which is a side project of French singer Keren Ann.

Cheating is cheating wherever you do it.

@lister - Newcastle fan? You have my sympathy. (Also, Huddersfield... You're not going to lose to Huddersfield, surely not?!)

I can understand that. I can also now reveal that a shoe (I was taking it off at the time) can bounce quite high when thrown against the ground in rage. I'm off to watch people being humiliated on Dragon's Den - it'll make me feel better.

I'm at the age where "I done it my way" is most appropriate.

Right boys that does it, I'm off to start a new thread on "songs that get on your nerves". Fortunately I don't know the one you are quoting, so I don't have to play something else to get it out of my head.

I'm far from convinced that Mr Pasquale can lay claim to that song, considering we were singing it on the school bus in 1974.

Not saying you're wrong, right, but you are. ;)
