I am researching our Mowat family who came from Bowermadden. William mowat (1793 - 1884) married Margaret Bain (1786 - 1869) had Elizabeth 1824- 1902;Andrew 1825 -1891 married Barbara Brims; Donald 1827 -1896 md Margaret Manson; John 1827 - 1904 married Janet Sinclair.

hi Greg,it was very interesting to see your post,my family line decends from John Mowat born in 1770 in Bower,Caithness. John married Isabella Miller in 1796 their son William was born in 1809 he married Jane Tait who was born in 1813 their daughter Isabella,my greatgrandmother was born in1839 she died in 1925.Isabella married John Sinclair they had ten children my grandmothe Annabella being one of them.I hope that this is of interest to you,my middle name is Mowat hopefully the name will be carried on with grandchildren.

H iPeggy, I was wondering, if this is our line of Mowats, where does Strathnaver and the clearances come in?. James, I have found on LDS and confirmed on SP, married Christian Lindsay 2nd of March 1731 at Dunnottar Kincardine, also a James born there 16 November 1705. Our William was babtised 10th of January 1808 at Buckies Thurso.Confused!:( Regards Flora
