Planning on building a house later this year and was wondered if anyone has first hand experience of this heating system. Everyone you speak to has heard a different story and we were shocked at the differences in the five quotes we received. Financially there was a difference of about £20000 for basically the same thing!!
Theoretically the large initail outlay is worth it for what you save over time but I would be grateful to speak to someone about the reality!!

Right, rumours are rife about these gizmos. Firstly what kind are you going for? There are 2 kinds.
1. The pipes are spread over a wide area, but you dont need to dig, bore down so deep.

2. A deep bore of a good few hundred metres.

What you will also need to do is check how much electricity the kit uses in pumping, as this can be quite expensive if you use alot.

You might get some advice or contact names from Ormlie Renewables

The page is a bit out of date but Angela and Alison are still there.

We are in the middle of a self build and have gone for a GSHP we ended up going with invisable heating in Ullapool, very freindly, helpful and will answer any questions you have. Try giving them a call.
Also Try their online site which gives you handy tools like cost comparisons for the likes of LPG / Oil / Mains Gas etc etc...

If you would like some more info or detailed info and prices for what we went for send me a PM.

Good luck with your self build and hope everything goes well for you.

Thanks for the replies.
Planning on looping the pipes as we have plenty of ground to play with, have also heard the electricity can go up substancially. Whats bothering me is that have heard a few folk have had to put in an electric boiler as the heat pump was not supplying enough heat!!

Have a quote in from IHS and it is very competitive. Have you an upstairs in your new house?

If I'd realised how stressful this building lark was going to be I think I would have just bought!!:D

Hi there.

We have just started a new build also using a GSHP with groundloops. Our house is approx 400+m2 using underfloor heating both upstairs & down.

As you, we approached various different companies and in the end decided to go with Nu-Heat. http://www.nu-heat.com/ as they gave the best overall package at an attractive price.

Our system will be using approx 800m of ground loop.

Should you require any further info or a contact name at Nu-Heat please drop me a message

Regards

Gav

If you think that running a loop will be quite prohibitive then you may find that an air source heat pump is an attractive alternative.

£1000 pounds will get you a unit that will heat a house, much less than ground source?
