St. John's wort

I was reading a little about this St. John's wort !! And i was wondering if anyone knows much about it ? like does it work? are there side effects? and if anyone has actually tried it ?

All I know is that you cannot use it if you're on the contraceptive pill as it interferes with it.
I've heard that it's quite good for depression though.
