View Full Version : Hummingbird moths
Do these ever get as far north as Caithness?
Had a beauty in the garden here today which did surprise me as they are usually fair weather fliers.
Did n't manage a photo but will keep trying between the downpours.

Finally managed to get some shots with a very fast shutter setting as the wings are a complete blurr to the naked eye.

Excellent shots, Lizz - especially this one that shows the back-beat of the wings that gives the hovering ability. They are beautiful moths, but I haven't seen any for some years now. Well done!
Got literally hundreds of them, I've only ever seen the odd one before so am delighted that they have migrated in numbers.
