At least that's what i think it is. Seen at the viewpoint at Lybster while sea watching.

A Cinnebar has only two spots on the wing and a long red stripe. Looks to me like a Five-spot Burnet, based on the width of the black margin on the hindwing.

You could well be right. Although the discription i read suggest the Five Spot Burnet is found in the SW and Wales. It sounds like an interesting sighting either way.
I'll leave that with you experts to ponder over.

I would think it's more likely to be a 6 Spot Burnet which is quite common around Caithness at this time of the year. Here's a photo of one taken locally for comparison.
