My parents didn't write any information on the back of their family photos........not even which family they belonged to! [mad]

I have one or two on my website, and as any or all of them could be Caithness ones, maybe some of you wold be kind enough to look and see if any of them ring any bells. They're too big to post here.

Thanks. :)

im sure your last photoe is of Barrock house, Lyth, familyhome of the Sinclairs, and looks like a maid standing in the garden. As soon as i saw the picture I recognised it, so i am pretty sure. hope this helps you.

Think I disagree with you Fran, Barrock House does not stand on a hill, its on the flat. It was the home of the Sinclairs, I agree with you on that

I have looked at the picture again and I am still sure. i agree Barrock house is on the flat but you have to drive uphill slightly on the drive which is the same as in the picture. the house is quite high and you look down to the fields. My friend owns the house and i will ask her to look at the picture and see what she thinks.

I have been trying to use photobucket to see if anyone could give me more information about the people in these photos. The moustachioed man in them all is definitely Alexander Fleming a fisherman and ropemaker from Wick. The others are less sure.

Could you be related to one of the children or have other photos which would help identify them.

I hope my url works.

The attached URL does seem to be working and should lead to a photo taken of Alexander Fleming born in Scourie in 1860 but lived in Wick as a fisherman and ropemaker most of his life until 1951. The woman on the right is Mary MacPherson his wife and I suspect that the young women may be some of his daughters with their children.

The photo seems to have been taken in the twenties so someone may recognise themselves as children and be able to identify the women in the photo. I would appreciate a definite identification as we are trying to sort out photos of our family with no names on the back.

The posh man in the bow tie might be even more identifiable. He is with a much older Alex in what looks like Argyle Square where they used to live. Any ideas who he is?

I'm not convinced that this is Argyle Square.
The buildings show one house at the end of a terrace, as there appears to be a little lane where the bike is parked.
Next to that little house I think there are two shops.
You will see the window on the first shop is double in size and has what could be an awning / blind above it .
The second shop too has an awning or something similiar.

I dont remember shops like that in Argyle Square - Mr Bulloch's shop did not have such a big window.

I'm wondering if the men are standing in Smith Terrace across from the Pilot House. There used to be a couple of shops there - down from Jessie Clyne's

The Posh man......?? was this a visitor / relation home on holiday ??

One of the local doctors wore a bow tie, so did the Skinner brothers who had the Plumbers business in Huddart Street !!

I'm just thinking aloud !

One of his latest addresses was 15 Barrogill Street. Could that be where the photo was taken. He was almost 90 in this photo. I had wondered if the bow tied gent was the local MP or someone like that. He is not obviously a relative as far as we can figure out.

Hi
I don't know if this will be of interest, but here's a link to a website which shows people in different styles of dress from the 1860s to 1920s, it may help with dating,
