Laptop problem

I use a Dell Inspiron 1501

Yesterday it was reluctant to shut down until I pressed the power button.

Today it won't start without pressing "any key" after showing the error message:

"Warning: the battery cannot be identified.
This system will be unable to charge this battery."

Is this a fault that needs action by me?

I've seen this problem before on a Dell laptop. Updating the BIOS fixed it.

If you go to the Dell Support website and put in the service tag you will see the BIOS updates available (hopefully). Get the latest one (even if it's the same as yours) and flash the BIOS following the instructions (carefully).

Flashing the BIOS can lead to problems if you're not careful so please follow the instructions!

Yep definately sounds like a bios problem. Isn't recognising your battery. Reinstalling the bios driver should work.
