It's just been announced that the national minimum wage is to go up to £5.35 in October.

It depends what age you are. It's only those aged 22 and above that will get £5.35. If you're 16 or 17 you'll get £3.30 and if you're between 18 and 21, you'll get £4.45. I totally agree with scrapydo. No one should be expected to get out of bed for less than they're entitled to. Really it should be more, as an incentive. But apart from anything else, it's against the law to pay less than the NMW.

The Federal minimum wage in the USA is a pathetic $5.15 an hour, which at today's exchange rate is just over 2.93 pounds per hour. [disgust] It's been $5.15 an hour since the late 1990s. Two states have wages lower than the Federal minimum, six have no minimum wage law, and only seventeen pay higher than the Federal minimum!

My youngest is really lucky as she gets£4.00 per hour and she's only 14/15 this year.
Its really just down to her having a good boss, one thats going to spend time training her as a proper KP and rewarding her with a good rate of pay.He alwas keeps his staff:Razz

I know of a few shops in Wick paying about this amount for adults. I suppose it's a case of take it or leave it. In some cases they realistically probably couldn't afford much more, Wicks not exactly thriving....yet!
