OK I'm no further ahead...

When I say what link, I mean where was the link you clicked to get to the forum?

Was it on the front page of caithness.org (http://www.caithness.org) or was it in the drop down menu on some other page?

Or were you typing the forum address into the address bar (http://forum.caithness.org)

If you were going to the front page of caithness.org (http://www.caithness.org) did the page appear or was it just a blank white page?

I couldn't get on to the front page at all just came up with a blank screen.

I've been finding it really slow earlier on today as well, rest of the web has been fine but as soon as I came on to the org it was taking ages for a page to come up??? seems to be better now tho.

I have been getting Database Error messages this afternoon couple with a double post when the site refused to respond to a submitted post.

The problem has been happening intermitently for the last week/10 days particularly in the afternoon, i thought it was my PC or that the site was being updated

If you do a google search on something like Thurso you will find a link for a caithness.org story and get in that way but it a bit of a "footer aboot"

OK, the www.caithness.org (http://www.caithness.org) front page sometimes has errors whilst being uploaded, causes the front page to be blank, generally this is the only page that it happens to and it only happens when the page is being updated, we have to re-upload the page to fix the problem each time, currently we have no solution to that problem. (other than to keep checking it)

I've spent the afternoon, rebuilding the search indexes on the forum, this has caused far more server usage than I imagined and would have caused the forum to give an error page (and send me an e-mail, over 300 this afternoon).

The sheer size of the database has been causing slow-downs when the site is busy it was over 190MB this morning and its now just over 60MB so I'm hoping that things will be a little faster now.

keep up the good work Niall :) it's the price of success lol

Also, earlier in the week, I was doing similar work on the Banner Ads management system that runs on the same server, I reduced that size of the database from 170MB to 7MB, similar load issues on the database server while sorting that one out.

As an aside to all this, I've rebuilt the drop down menu system that runs on the forum and most of the rest of Caithness.Org, this work is ongoing and also linked to the stylesheets so you may notice a few glitches as I finish tidying up. The Caithness Business Index has been re-written this week to make the templates W3C Strict HTML compliant (well almost, a few bugs yet to be worked out) These changes will be migrated to the Sports Index, Arts Index and Sutherland Business Index over the next fortnight so there may be issues on those sites while I make changes to the databases.

With any luck, it won't spoil your orgxperience too much :)
