looking for advice, are there a way of changing files from one format to another - when I download my camcorder video footage it has MPEG-2 format and its also MPEG-2 Format when copy it to a DVD, as the older DVDs players don't recognise this when watching it on a DVD only the new DVD players will play it. My computer is Windows XP.

It sounds like you are simply copying the MPEG file onto the DVD and burning as an MPEG file. A lot of DVD players will recognise that it is a data disk (like you use on your computer) and play the MPEG. However some will see it as a data disk, don't know what to do with it and give up. For those players you need a DVD format disk.

To create a DVD format disk you need to convert your MPEG into a DVD format and then burn THAT onto the DVD disk which will play in all DVD players.

There are lot and lots of software to do it. There are a few free ones but I've yet to see one that does the whole thing without fiddling.

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author (http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/taw4.html) 3 with DivX Authoring (which is way out of date as v4 is here now) whic is commercial (about £50) but well worth the money if you are going to do more than a few DVD's. It takes you through a series of steps and you end up with a DVD to poay in your DVD player. It just works.

There is a free version available here (http://www.tmpgenc.net/en/download.html). I have no idea how good it is or whether it will work for you as I don't use the free one.

As I said there are a lot of free options available and I'd be very interested to see if somebody knows of one that will not be fiddly or be a hassle and just works.

I use dvdSanta, it's fairly simple to use, you just gotta remember to tick the correct region setting.

You can get it free(may contain watermark) or as with any software find it for free.
