I was noticing that the above will be on in Wick on 22nd March. It says that this is the biggest thing to affect council tennants in years. I know it probably was all explained in the council newsletter, but me being me, I just put them in the bin. Does any-one know what this is all about and whether it is worth going?

Connie i dont blame you,i've done the same.
Think it will be worth going as its almost a certenty that we'll be transfering to this private company
It looks as though it will be council run but be public limited by guarantee.A bit like the aquadome in Inverness ,which is council owned but privately run:confused:

As the council are transferring all their housing stock I wonder if this affects the householders right to buy?

here is another link, this is happening more over the country, it will be the equivilent of having Pentland as your landlord instead of the council....

i was told that if you are a council tennant then you would be eligible to buy but new tennants would not..

Thanks pultneytooner, It dosn't sound like too good a thing then:cry: It's worth bearing in mind that the unions will come out with the same old scaremongering because... well... that's their job. It helps them bring in the pennies. If they didn't suggest that any change would be disastrous, then who'd feel the need to join and pay their subs?

It's worth looking at what has happened elsewhere in the country. Glasgow City Council's housing stock was transferred to Glasgow Housing Association (http://www.gha.org.uk/content/default.asp) 3 years ago. The council's housing debt was written off (most of the rent had previously gone into debt repayments) and from houses having not been repaired for a decade or two, somewhere between £1 and £2 million is now spent every week renovating and updating the housing.

On the other hand, Edinburgh council tenants voted against (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4530106.stm) a transfer of stock a few months ago.

It's worth finding out as much as you can about the effects a stock transfer would have on your home and your neighbourhood, and taking everybody's arguments with a pinch of salt until you've formed your own opinion.

I honestly believe this is going to be Highland Council discuised as a private company. That way they get all the benifits of a transfer and all staff are transfered,Think the road show is here on Thursday so keep you informed.
