Did anyone see Feasts on BBC4 last night? I found the Day of the Dead festival fascinating. The preview said:

Food writer Stefan Gates immerses himself in extraordinary feasts and festivals. In Mexico, Stefan goes on a wild emotional and spiritual rollercoaster ride, starting with a teenage girl's bizarre coming-of-age ceremony and ending with the Day of the Dead, a cacophonous cross-cultural festival of the senses during which Mexicans truly believe that their loved ones come back from the dead for three days every year to spend the day with them. The Day of the Dead festival comes from the Aztecs but it seems to have been accepted or even embraced by the local Catholic church. The BBC reporter found it quite uplifting and I may have felt the same had I experienced it in the way he did.
